When I was young, my mom would take me to empty construction sites for ‘treasure hunts’ where I would scavenge for unused nails, screws, scrap wood or other materials that I could turn into one invention or another. I found these treasure hunts thrilling for many reasons but mainly I loved the idea that objects full of potential, pieces essential to the construction of something grand and of great importance to me were waiting to be discovered. That same passion animates my photography today, a search for small, seemingly unremarkable pieces that tell important stories about us and who we are.
